Santa Clause Came To Town (August Contest Winner!)
By: Jon
Through long deliberation we here at Skiboard Magazine have found our winner for the X-mas in August contest. It was tough choosing between all the different entries we had recieved but here it is. Marco Lorenzon is the proud owner of a pair of Brand New Groove Skiboards courtesy of SkiboardsOnline.com. Marco had a lot to say, here is his entry:
As the great ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle once said, “Man is a goal seeking animal. His life only has meaning if he is reaching out and striving for his goals.". These words of wisdom constantly return to my mind, day by day, as I endeavour to make my dreams come true or more simply attempt to reach an objective of a smaller entity. What is life without a goal? What is the essence of man’s existence if not setting aims and aspiring to succeed in reaching targets which have been set through time? I can say I know myself enough in order to say that I am one of those ‘goal seeking animals’ which Aristotle cites. This particularly strong trait that characterizes me is present in every single aspect of my existence, no matter how important the moments or situations may be. This of course implies that as I get on my boards and strap my helmet on I begin setting my goals, and no matter what goal it is, it ultimately results in defeating myself. As strange as this might sound, anytime that one attempts (and of course succeeds) to improve or progress in something, this results in our own defeat, because we overcome what we have previously obtained, thus defeating ourselves. It is of course s paradoxic pleasant defeat, and the feeling of satisfaction for having overcome yourself is more delightful than that of defeating any other person. This is precisely why I value goals so much, and this is also why I’m not going to sit here and bore you with what I consider my minor objectives for next season, obvious things such as “I want to through a backflip” or “I want to improve my skills on rails”, because I don’t believe these are my real goals, I don’t believe reaching these superficial aims could make me a better person. Well, it definitely would to the eyes of others of course, but I ride for myself and no one else. It’s me against the mountain, and against myself of course. Hence, my goals for the season are definitely on a larger scale, I want to take advantage of every second that goes by as I glide on my boards, every instant I’m in the air, and every particle of snow which soars on my face. The sensations which I perceive when I skiboard make me forget everything else, as if nothing else existed. What I experience is almost mystical, and I can’t even think of giving up these sensations. This is precisely why my goal for this season is to ride for myself, admiring the wonders of mother earth as the trees and rocks which surround me pass flying by. In other words, as the Romans wisely said “Carpe Diem”, seize the moment, take advantage of every instant that goes by.

Unfortunately the runner up places don't pay out but nonetheless we have decided to give you guys a look at the 2nd and 3rd place runner up entries. 2nd goes to Phil Kentfield with his anti-goal philosophy:
Goals, what are goals? i have no goals in my siboarding life i just belive that i can and will turn any normal skier and sum snowboarders into die hard skiboarders. skiboarding needs to be expanded. theres always gunna be some one better then you. if u just have a goal to be beeter then that person what will u do when you find the person that was better then them from the start? Skiboarding should be about taking yourself to the limits of phyics and controling movement and momentum like a gracefull balerina. Skiboarding is about not just showing off to every one else that your good its about pushing your self to be good and some times trowing up your middle fingers in the air. its about how many snowboarders u can push over while making a run down the hill. its about not giving a care in the world about what others think about you.Skiboarding is the brief second were nuthing matters except the snow benath you.

Oh, the best thing is: make a meeting in european mountains Alps, get there italian, french, german and latvian riders and make some movie, party ofcorse and all stuff..;)
And the last thing is make web page about skiboarding, it will be "united skiboarders of europe" = a.k.a. U.S.E. !!! its a european project , the biggest part takes german rider Tayata (Mathias)he makes all design and stuff.
