Post About The X-Games

I find that funny. Face it, skiboarding will most likely never be back in the X Games, or at least not for quite some time. Here's why:

The X Games are not what they use to be. When they started, they were a place for sports that were an alternative to mainstream. They didn't care if they were "cool," they just wanted sports that were exciting to watch, and involved risk (aka: lots of falls and crashes).

Today, things have changed. The X Games today are just a show for what surveys (of 13 year old Tony Hawk wannabes) think are "cool." The x games today have become mainstream. They are just a subdivision of regular sports under the new "action sports" title. And sports are only action sports if the 12 year old skateboarders have a video game they can play of it.

So... Skateboarding, BMX, and Snowboarding got to stay. Fine, but not when you add Surfing, Skiing, and MotoX. Surfing and MotoX were already on TV all the time, and everyone, including my grandmother (litterally), can ski. Some sports, like rollerblading and wakeboarding, get to stay as tokens. They're never on TV, but they attract some people when you hear "up next Matt Lindy tries to triple back flip," only to show a 30 second summary of the entire event.

The only way skiboaring will ever get back into the X Games is if we completely sell out our sport, and make little 5th graders think that they will cool by skiboarding. Although I'd love to see it on TV, and the extra money would really help the sport, I'd rather see skiboaring get built up at the grassroots level first. Get your friends to skiboard, and they'll get others too. Represent the sport through pics, videos, web sites, and what ever else you feel like. The word will spread and skiboarding will grow.

Sorry I wrote so much, and most this post is just anger, but ESPN has been one of the few things to REALLY piss me off. They way they falsely represent so many sports that are truely fun makes me so irate I can't even discribe it... I just feel that until skateboarding isn't the "cool" thing again, that is when the X Games will be true once more. Peace out.
