I've Got Yer Progression Right Here
By: Jon

As a new season rolls around the industry is a buzz with all sorts of rumors and arguments. One of the most active message boards out there is the Line Skis message board. Many skiboarders seem to still frequent the board and toss their input into the arena. As always someone who seems to lack any intelligence tosses out their two cents in a very haphazardly way.

The main argument that most of these kids seem to toss around is the only way for us skiboarders to progress is to move to skis. Is that what this sport has come to? The only way for us to move forward is to give up on the sport that we love and move to another sport? I think not. It seems that while we as the skiboard community are pushing the limits of things to come that many of the former skiboarders are giving up on their roots. Why? Maybe its because they can't handle being themselves. Maybe its because they are being made fun of. Maybe it's because its more difficult to land a huge trick. If that's the reason then what is the point in trying new and better things on skiboards?

Let's get this straight, there is skiboarding and there is skiing. We are a different sport and we are able to progress on our own. If you have seen the road gap in "SB3: Tales from the crew" then you know exactly what it is that I am talking about. We can go just as huge and just as far as any other sport. It all depends on the riders. It's up to each and every skiboarder to push their own limits (without hurting themselves). That is progression. Where you, the skiboard community, want this sport to go then that's where we will see it in the future. If you guys want to see huge 900's over a 75 foot gap then that's where it will be.

This season is one season that will rival many before it because we have the industry pushing us out there to new areas that we haven't been before. A lot of new (and improved) product means that not only do you have more options of what to ride/wear but also it means that you as an individual can represent this sport and push this sport like you have never done before. The point behind this article is to get the point across that progression within this sport is just what it is, within this sport. We can always learn from other sports as technology and riding skills are always going to be shared in between winter sports.

But the fact is that what one person does in this sport is different from what they do in another sport, we do ride different. But remember although we do ride different gear and we do ride in a different way that we are all just sliding on snow and that respect should be as much a part of your riding as your style should be. We as skiboarders need to also represent our sport, teach as much as we need to show off our "stuff". Progression is in the hands of the community and through it we can only grow.
