Board Maintenance: P-Tex & You!
By: Roussel

Are those nasty scratches on your bases annoying you? Are you a do it yourselfer that doesn't like other people fixing up their own stuff? Then this is the guide for you!

First off, let's check off the things you'll need.

1. P-Tex stick: Go to your local sports shop and ask for P-Tex, They come in various colors to match the color of your base, I got a stick for $1,25.

2. Scraper: Good flat metal scraper.

3. Fire: Matches, lighter, torch, whatever!

First, clean the bases of your boards, or the area where the scratched is. You might even want to scrap a bit to get any wax off to make sure none gets between the P-Tex and the base. You could take off your bindings to make handling them a little easier.

Now, use your fire to melt the tip of the stick of P-Tex while holding the other end in your hand. I found the best way is to wait until the P-Tex has caught fire, then it drips nice and fast, and you don't have to constantly heat it up. Don't worry it burns very slow so you won't get burnt with the hand your holding the stick with. Let the P-Tex drip into the scratches.

So now all your scratches are filled up with P-Tex, sit back and wait a few minutes until the P-Tex dries. I found if you don't wait long enough, the P-Tex will just come out of the dents when you try to scrape it off.

Grab your scraper and scrape off the excess P-Tex so you end up with a flat smooth like a baby's bum surface again.

And that's how it's done! You've just saved yourself 20$ that you would have spent at a ski repair shop and you have the satisfaction of having done it yourself. Now that all your scratches are gone you might want to hot wax your boards so you can really fly! Hmm, wait, being the handyman (or gal) that you are you probably want to do that yourself too. Ah…. Maybe next time folks!
