America
By: Kirk

Everywhere but America people can make decisions without worrying what other people think. Why? Why are we brought up to be an "individual" by acting like everyone else? Why is "self-expression" an excuse for immorality? Why can a group only be good if there is another called worse? I love America, but half the continent wouldn't know what to do if they didn't have a group to try to fit into. Its like a bunch of lemmings following eachother blindly to their death, unquestioning, uncaring.

Oh well, at least theres some of us that can see that skiboarding is fun. Too bad it isn't like UK or Japan, where they can see the sport, not the "lifestyle" of it. Why do all the skiiers and snowboarders look the same? Is there some rule that if you ski or snowboard you have to look a certain way? Skateboarding, biking and even rollerblading are just as bad. They're all tons of fun, but why is there an image for the athletes? Do all the athletes come from the same exact same background to make them think the same? No.

The life of a sport comes from being in it for years. When I see little kids start skateboarding, its funny that right along with that comes all DC and Independent clothes. Why do they have to shop at "skater overnight stores" like PacSun just because they skate? Sure, I guess it does help support the industry, but why can't kids just go out there and enjoy sports? Why are there very few kids who skate, but lots of skater kids?

When I started skating, I also started skateboarding. I did them both because they were fun. After a while I got sick of paying $50 for a new board every month, so I mostly gave it up, but why can't kids just go out and have fun? I get mad when I see little kids skating being called posers and **** because they aren't considered "skaters" by their peers. Its funny because these kids are usually the ones that stay with the sport.

I guess I'm just glad that skiboarding is still pure, and I sorta want it to stay that way. There isn't a stereotypical skiboarder. No one is buying their way into our sport. People don't skiboard to get labeled a skiboarder, we're all here just doing it for the fun of it. This is good and I sorta want it to stay that way. Sure, I'd love to see it explode again, but I'd much rather have it grow up for a few years from the grassroots level, then show the world whats up. I don't know if any of this made sense, but at least it got out some of my anger.
